These simple switches are the Mechanical Bumper sensor for the SparkFun RedBot, giving you the ability to detect a collision before it really happens. This sensor works by acting as a SPST switch. When the "whisker" bumps into a foreign object it will make contact with a nut next to it, closing the connection and, by default, turning off the motor. By attaching these mechanical bumpers to you robot the whisker will bump something before your robot crashes into it.
This outdoor sensor provides very short to long distance detection and ranging in a compact, robust PVC housing. The ultrasonic sensor meets the IP67 water intrusion standard and matches standard electrical 3/4-inch PVC pipe fittings.
These easy-to-use ultrasonic rangefinders from Maxbotix work the same way as the EZ line that you know and love, but this new high-resolution series features 1 millimeter resolution! As with the rest of the Maxbotix range finders, these sensors feature Analog Voltage, RS232 Serial, and Pulse Width outputs making them easy to interface with any microcontroller. These sensors have a maximum range of 5000 mm (195 inches) with virtually no dead zone (although objects closer than 30 cm will typically range as 30 cm).
This is the fantastically easy to use sensor from Maxbotix. We are extremely pleased with the size, quality, and ease of use of this little range finder. The serial interface is a bit odd (it's RS232 instead of standard TTL), but the PWM and Analog interfaces will allow any micro to listen easily enough. The sensor provides very accurate readings of 0 to 255 inches (0 to 6.45m) in 1 inch increments with little or no dead zone!
