Sorry I broke my promise with posting this yesterday, but another emergency came up. I was worth it though. My wife heard "help me" being repeted, but couldn't tell where it was coming from. She came and got me to look around the neighborhood. We have several elderly folks (as well as a buncha' loud kids running around) where we live. I figured it must have been some kids because I couldn't hear anything. Then, what sounded like a dog howling, we heard the destict words "help me, please somebody". It was coming from behind the fence. I scaled it and found our elderly neighbot in her back doorway. Her leg was obviously broken. My wife ran and called 911 while I stayed w/ her. Poor lady fell in her (removed by spam filter), screamed for a few hors before putting a try under her broken leg and sliding part-way out the back door. That must have been painful! She laid there for a couple more hours banging her cane on the door (which was severly dented) and screaming before my wife even heard her. Ambulence came and took her off and she's fine now. My wife's a herroin! :D

You need 2 extra robonova servos- the HSR-8498, about $60 each, so when you add the cost of the grippers (assuming you get them when they are on sale, it comes to just a little over $230 with shipping.

I thought the Robosavvy shop had these but the only place I can find them in stock is over at Lynxmotion http://www.lynxmotion.com/Product.aspx?productID=456&CategoryID=91

He doesnt supply servos. You can order them from lynxmotion for around $120.00. I ordered them so that they would arrive at the same time as the grippers :)

I am so excited...rope climbing and shimmying is my new goal :)

Matt - you are my hero!

Yes, we can works something out. Please send me an e-mail to nerds@earthlink.net. We'll go from there. :D

IF I WANT THIS GRIP, WHAT ELSE SHOULD I NEED? You said I might require a servo, does it mean i have to buy 2 more servos and these pair for grips?

Yes, H3dude is right, you'll also need to purchase the two servos seperately. I hope everyone is clear on that. I don't want to mislead anyone.

I would love to do that for you, but there's a couple problems that get in the way. First, they're on backorder at my local RC hobby shop. If I'd order them elsewhere they'd cost me more, and with the included shipping, just wouldn't be worth it for you. You're probably better off ordering them directly from Lynxmotion. Second, It would only be practical for me to order the servos in lots of ten. That's quite a lot of overhead for someone who’s not so wealthy. I'd hate to be stuck with a pile of servos collecting dust on my shelf when all is said and done. ...not that I wouldn't eventually use them but I can't pay people in servos... :wink

OK - this just struck me...I just blindly ordered compatible servos from Lynxmotion - I did not think about the length of the cable!!! :(

Do they sell servos with the option of cable length? Please advice...here is the one that I bought:

This will give me a chance to redo the cable management on my Robonova-1.

Do they sell servos with the option of cable length? Please advice...here is the one that I bought:

The length of the servo leads are 400mm (15.75") and is their standard. I haven't heard of optional lengths. You'll find plenty of slack w/ enough left over to shorten the length some if you want. There's really no need, but if you plan on cutting out some length, you'll of course want to have the connectors and a crimper to do it right. You can pick those up at any good RC hobby shop.

One other question that has come up in an e-mail...
Is it best to have the cables of the two Servos on opposite sides?
Or is there so much room that it is not important which side the cables
comes out of the servo?

It does not matter which side the leads come out. The grips were made to adapt with whichever way you choose to put them on.
In fact, (at least w/ every HSR-8498HB I bought, the leads only come out on one side. They don't come in pairs w/ alternating lead positions like the ones that came with the RN-1 (ie. right leg servo, left leg servo). Unless you can find a way to slip the leads under the servo's circuitry, and break the little plastic tab free on the opposing side, you'll have to make due. I personally have not found it to be a problem in any way.

many of us hope RN can rotate the legs, it makes walking to rotate easily.

please complete our dream :D
