The USB2Dynamixel device allows the direct connection of the PC to the Dynamixel bus.
It is compatible with the AX-12 TTL bus (Bioloid Servos, AX-18, MX-28T, MX-64T), and RS-485 bus (MX, RX and EX series servos – at 1mbps, not 3mbps). Additionally it includes a Serial Port connector allowing USB connection to the serial interface of the CM5/CM2 and to the Zig2Serial interfaces.
Deploying a FTDI chip, once connected, the module will appear on the PC as a standard COM port. Half duplexing on the bus is fully controlled by the USB2Dynamixel and is transparent to the PC.
The USB2Dynamixel will only interface with the DATA line(s) on the bus; it will not power the bus. Therefore if you intend on using the USB2Dynamixel to control an array of servos without any CM controller, you will additionally need the SMPS2Dynamixel which is a power supply board to the Dynamixel bus.
- Bioloid Bus (one wire TTL: AX-12, CM-5, CM-510)
- MX, RX and EX Servo Bus (RS485) up to 2mbsp (not 3mbps)
- RS232 9 pin connector
Please note: The USB2Dynamixel can only work in one of the above modes at a time; a switch on the module lets you seect the mode of operation: TTL/AX-12, RS485 or RS232. It will not allow the simultaneous operation of multiple buses.
