KONDO KHR-2HV Humanoid Robot Kit

Kondo KHR-2HV robot

The all new improved Kondo KHR-2HV Humanoid Robot Kit is presented to the robot fans. It is the 2nd version of Kondo's KHR-1 - the first humanoid kit robot in the world. The upgraded robot features more controls, gears, servos, and software, adding more tricks and skills. Designed with a well-balanced body with a bigger chest for a muscular look. With ultra light weight aluminum alloy frames for the body, Kondo KHR-2HV is faster and lighter for jumps. Adopts 17 adjustable joints, it is capable of doing back flips and cartwheels, and more human-like motions. It is easy to assemble and program Kondo KHR-2HV. Kondo introduced one of the best robots in Japan. Available in silver. Check out KHR-2HV Robot's videos below for more information.

Due to its ease of assembly and configuration, the KHR-2HV is considered a great robot for beginners and educators alike, and can easily be assembled and configured by anyone. Like its predecessor, the KHR-2HV can be programmed through its easy to use GUI programming software, and can be controlled via remote control or PC.

We provide free tech-support with the purchase of your KHR-2HV, and will work with you to get your robot up and running. We also honor the manufacturer's one year warranty.

Mechanical Frames

KHR-2HV frame

Unassembled Robot Body including aluminum frames, plastic struts, nuts and screws. The new body is carefully engineered to allow maximum versatility. The knee for example, can fold all the way allowing the robot to duck when attacked and jump when needed. Its initial stand has been improved to allow the structure to better support the robot rather then using up power of the servo's PID control holding torque mechanism.

Screws, Strutts, wires

KHR-2HV screws and strutsThe KHR-2HV has considerably less screws than its predecessor, wires are streamlined along the body of the humanoid and new servo arms are ingeniously architected as shock absorbers.

Controller Board

rcb-3 controler khr-2hv kondoRCB-3J Control Board with 24 PWM input/output and 3 analog input ports. This is a tiny Renesas microcontroller board with PCB of about 4cm x 3.5cm.
RCB-3 incorporates two serial communication approaches - a high speed serial port capable of 115,200 bps communication with the PC, and a lower speed serial port for use with R/C type controls. It's Heart-To-Heart-3 software allows analog signal inputs to be scaled and mixed to trigger conditional program branching within the controller.

PC Communications

USB to Serial Programming Cable supplied.

Charger

The supplied battery charger is not a 220V compatible charger. The one included in this Japanese kit is compatible with 100V input mains. You can find on Ebay, for £10, intelligent hobby RC battery chargers compatible with the supplied 5-cell 10.8V NiMH battery.

Battery

Software

Heart-To-Heart 3.0 comes in English version is the software to program the robot and its behavior and interaction with sensors. It also supports the catch-and-play functionality to record the disposition of servos so that these can be played in sequence to orchestrate a motion.

KONDO KHR-2HV Assembly and Software

56 pages of KHR-2HV English Hardware Assembly Manual (download) will guide event the novice robot builder through the process of getting the KHR-2HV up and running in about 8-10 hours. You will enjoy every minute of the construction process as you gradually see the mechanical parts, wires, screws and electronics take form into an amazing humanoid robot.

khr-2 assembly

KHR-2HV comes with a comprehensive software called Heart To Heart 3 (download) which runs on Windows XP. Heart To Heart (H2H) allows the user to graphically define the logic of the robot's behaviour through flow-chart diagrams. The compiled code is transfered to the robots's controler board (RCB-3) through the supplied USB/Serial interface cable. The RCB-3 Software Manual (download) contains 40 pages of instructions on how to use this advanced software that allows the novice and advanced roboteer to make the humanoid do all the tricks.

Using the GUI you can configure the robot to move and behave in desired ways when remote controled or when encountering obstacles senses by an addon gyro or accelerometerParts of the GUI are "skinnable" so you can personalize it with your background pictures and colors.

KHR-2HV KRG-3 heart to heart catch and playThe software allows the user to perform what is called "catch and play" function, which means freely moving the robot's limbs and recording the pose on the PC. As the robot moves through the orchestrate consecutive captured poses, it will perform the desired motion.
The software comes with over 30 working motions (download motion files). Some of them are shown in this video. Thse motions can be loaded into Heart To Heart software after building and calibrating the KHR-2HV.

KONDO KHR-2HV Optional Extensions (not included)

A-621 Genex Body Cover

Following an open design competition, Kondo announced in May 2007 the availability of Polycarbonate body armor for KHR-2HV. It make the KHR-2HV look more like the combat robot that it is. The body armor does not obstruct the standard body movements.

KRG-3 Gyro Sensor

KRG-3 gyro sensor for KHR-2HV

KRG-3 gyro sensor is attached to the RCB-3 board and give the KHR-2HV extra stability especially when walking. 2 units can be attached to the RCB-3 for circumvent imminent falls in two directions. The supplied software Heart-To-Heart3 allows the use of the accelerator analog data to implement the counter fall algorithms.

RAS-2 Accelerator Sensor

RAS-2 accelerometer sensor for KHR-2HV

RAS-2 is a 2-axis acceleration sensor that can be attached to the RCB-3 in order to allow both extra stability and also to identify, when falling, which direction the robot has fallen to in order to allow him to get up on its legs using the right sequence of movements.

KRG-1 Wireless Controller

This wireless controler was especially created for KHR-1 and KHR-2HV. It is a 27Mhz Controller w/ Wireless USB Interface Unit Remote Control. 16 key FM / AM band specification adjustable frequency transmitter Includes Crystal exchange system that allow up to 20 units to be active simultaneously in the same competition.
