Hi

We got the news from DAGU about a Robot sprider created using the Red Back Spider Controller, a few servos and Chopstix for the legs.

phpBB [media]

Another video, of an improved version, upgraded to use 12kgf.cm servos
(I believe they've used the TowerPro MG495 Metal Gear Servo which are quite powerfull and cost effective - they retail for 15GBP inc VAT and include full metal gears)

phpBB [media]

The controller is the same Red Back Spider Controller

Quite impressive, for both the creativity of using chopstix and the power of the Red Back Spider controller.

Regards
Pedro.

Russ from Dagu, the inventor of the Chopstix robot has productised the "octapod" and we will soon have it up for sale at RoboSavvy store.

The kit version has a whole lot of goodness for big sized (~60cm, ~5kg) robot with a relatively small pricetag (probably around ~400GBP). Here is a preliminary list of components and features:
  • Dagu Spider controller (Arduino) + Dagu HD servo sheild
  • Dagu Wild thumper switch (and relay)
  • Dagu Pan tilt kits 2pcs (includes 4 small servos) + 2 Dagu Compound eyes (infrared distance sensors)
  • 24 x 17kgs-cm @ 7.2 servos (with brass gears and dual bearings)
  • additional servo mounted between the front legs. This is to allow a small optional range finding sensor
  • 300 nuts and bolts
  • foot collision sensors (to deal with uneven terrain)
  • leg clutch mechanism to impact prevent wear and damage
  • 5000mAH LiPo battery + charger
  • Optional embedded linux + wifi + webcam + RoboRealm software
