Check out this post about the "Onimaru2" robot at Robots-Dreams. This is really an amazing creation, and well illustrates how far we all have to go to catch up with the Japanese. :)

Does anybody have any more information about Onimaru2? I tried a Google search but didn't come up with anything.

In the spirit of "learn from the masters," what lessons can we take from Onimaru's design for our own robots?

Thanks,
- Joe

Amazing.

I'd have to say that the first lesson learned here is to not be afraid to try your own thing...

His 'bot(s) are far from conventional.

I'd sure love to know that, too. But those parts look like plastic to me — which could be made a lot of ways. This builder is less likely to have access to a rapid prototyping machine, so it's entirely possible that he sculpts his parts out of clay, and then casts them in resin, or some such.

Lem tells me that he's going to be seeing Yamaguichi-san soon, so hopefully he'll get some details on how he builds his wonderful bots.

Best,
